About Village SoHo

Village SoHo is a mixed-income housing project that brings together multiple parties to create much-needed housing in a historically vital neighbourhood of London. It is a first-of-its-kind-in-Canada project, with six non-profit developers working together on one site to create a mixed-income development offering nearly 700 market-rate, affordable, and supportive housing apartments.

Convened by London Community Foundation, Village SoHo brings together six experienced non-profit housing developers to address this pressing issue by building a mix of housing options on the old Victoria Hospital Lands in the SoHo (South of Horton) neighbourhood in south central London. The mixed-income development aims to foster a strong, safe, and accessible community, create a sense of belonging, and celebrate the rich history and heritage of SoHo.

Construction started in the fall of 2023, with each non-profit developer leading the construction for their individual projects. All buildings are expected to be completed by Summer 2028.

Mixed-Income Model

The units at Village SoHo are rented at a wide spectrum of rates, from market rate to 80% of market rate to deeply affordable rates to accommodate individuals, roommates, and families. Some of the housing will also offer on-site support for health, wellness, and belonging.

Unique Features

The developers adhere to the same core principles, which include as high a level of affordability as possible, accessibility, energy efficiency, tenant diversity, inclusion of priority groups with on-site tenant support, and partnerships with agencies and community groups.

Accessibility

All buildings are fully wheelchair accessible and barrier-free common areas, and over 30% of the units are designed to be fully barrier-free.

The Developers

The individual affordable housing developers have proven track records and many years of producing successful, award-winning projects that have greatly added to the architectural quality of the streetscape of London. While each developer is responsible for their building, the developers have worked together to create complementary designs and a unified vision.
